European Radio 1983

In the Summer of 1983 I made a visit to three European countries, France, Belgium and the Netherlands, to experience the sights and sounds of radio.

Here are some photos of that interesting time:

Firstly three photos of Radio Maeva, a Belgian free radio station doing an outside broadcast from Knokke.

Next up some photos of the Radio Veronica ship, the Norderney, which was being used as a floating disco in Middelburg at the time.

Then a quick trip over the North Sea in a very small aeroplane to view from the air the recent arrival of the Radio Caroline ship, the Ross Revenge. Apologies for the less than professional shots of the ship, the two professional photographers with me took much better photos!

Now some photos of the buildings connected to the Belgian offshore station Radio Atlantis. Firstly the offices of the record label connected to the station, then the actual studio building, then the famous ‘White House’ belonging to the owner Adriaan Van Landschoot, and finally the bar where the DJs relaxed after recording their shows.
